Θάλασσα-Muir- The sea
Poems ranging from Homer to demotic and folk, from ancient Greek to Gaelic Irish binding the cultures of the sea, the Greek and the Irish.
After George Chouliaras suggestion and invitation I went there with a new Greek friend.
The concept is pioneering and overwhelming, a few props on stage, the ones needed and utilised throughout the performance, nice minimalism & pure white. The tone was jazz, low at times harsh, strong and resounding in the ear, but such is the sea, anarchic, abstract, wild & free…
I found the music instruments used to produce sea-like sounds quite inventive and some interesting and profound figures and shapes coming out of the dancer, what I was expecting to see was also a response-discussion between the dancer and the music to build up perhaps from beginning to end with a climax or somewhere during the performance. That in fairness was communicated in few occasions, but not sure if intended throughout the performance. Surely this critique is only a point of view without any means to be critical of course.
In overall I enjoyed a spectacular performance from many aspects, audio, visual, kinetic and dynamic… inspiring me more for a multimedia dissertation for my 3rd year project…
